Stars are something that is too far away from us. You can see it, but you can’t touch it. It’s like a reminder. Sometimes it lets us find our way when we are lost; a good example is the North Star. Some people also wish on stars for hope.

Since Naminé is a nobody, she feels that there was no hope and that she would fade back into the darkness once she became whole. In Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, she was the loneliest person in the world and was so desperate for a friend. Naminé had no hope at that point. Thus, the name starless. She had nothing to wish on, as if the sky she saw was starless. No reminders, no one to guide her; everything was far from her reach. And that’s how I got the name.

The real origin was, when I was looking through a thesaurus, and I came across the word cloudy. There was a good amount of word under it, but starless caught my eye. I began to over-analyze the word (like cloudy can mean mysterious, hidden, etc.) and it really matched Naminé in my opinion. XD
